Pioneer men's tennis team loses narrow decision to nationally-ranked Occidental

PASADENA, Calif. - The Grinnell College men's tennis team showed its grit Sunday, taking nationally-ranked Occidental to the limit before losing a narrow 5-4 decision.

Grinnell won four of six singles matches against the Tigers, who are ranked 34th in the nation. Wilder Cooke '25 posted a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 2 singles, Lucas Willett '26 claimed a 7-6, 0-6, 7-6 victory at No. 4, Sam Rudenberg '25 was victorious 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 and Aiden Klass '25 earned a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 win at No. 6.

All three Pioneer doubles teams played their opponents to tight matches. Leo Esztergomi '24 and Klass lost 8-7 at the top spot, while the duos of Rudenberg-Deuce Daniel '26 and Karch Knoll '25-Willett lost 8-6 at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.

Grinnell, 8-6, faces Cal Lutheran on Monday.
