Grinnell women's tennis squad blanks Luther as Tang ties school mark for singles wins

GRINNELL, Iowa - Sunday turned out to be twice as nice for the Grinnell College women's tennis team.

Not only did the Pioneers stretch their winning streak against 17-win Luther College to three matches after losing the previous 14 meetings, Sabrina Tang '23 tied the Grinnell school record for singles victories with a win at the top spot.

Grinnell (14-7) won the match 9-0, marking the Pioneers' second shutout of the Norse in the last three meetings.

Tang coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the top spot for career singles win No. 75, matching the total put up by Hanna Feldman from 2010-14. Tang has 23 singles wins this season, which ranks seventh in program history.

The Pioneers also got singles victories from Ioanna Giannakou '24 (6-4, 6-1), Utsah Kalra '25 (6-1, 6-2), Lily Perrin '25 (6-2, 6-0), Sydney Marin '25 (4-6, 7-5, 1-0) and Anika Sheth '26 (6-4, 7-5).

In doubles play, Tang and Giannakou combined for an 8-4 victory at No. 1. Tang now has 53 career doubles wins, 15th all-time at Grinnell, and Giannakou has 47, which ranks 21st. Tang's 128 combined victories are third-most for the Pioneers.

Mira Manchanda '24 and Isa Voinescu '26 won 8-3 at the second spot, while Perrin and Kalra posted an 8-3 decision at No. 3.

Grinnell closes out the regular season at home next Saturday against Iowa Central Community College. From there, the Pioneers will await the NCAA Division III Tournament.
