Grinnell women's soccer team battles to 1-all draw with Foresters in battle of MWC powers

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Grinnell College and Lake Forest College, both expected to be in the thick of the Midwest Conference women's soccer title hunt at season's end, reflected that Saturday as the squads battled to a 1-all draw.

Grinnell (2-2-3, 0-1-1 MWC) broke out to a 1-0 halftime lead when the Pioneers scored on an own goal in the 33rd minute.

The mighty Pioneer defense kept the Forester attackers off the scoreboard until the 68th minute when the hosts found the back of the net. Neither team could dent the scoreboard again, resulting in a deadlock in the MWC opener for both teams.

After not getting a shot off in the first half, Grinnell managed five in the second stanza. Ramona Delborne '26 had two of those shots, with both being on goal. Tallying one shot each were Tessa Leahy '25, Tali Berk '24 and Katie Carson '26.

Though Lake Forest (2-3-4, 0-0-1 MWC) won the shots battle 8-5, the Pioneers held a 5-4 edge in the second half. The Pioneers also had six corners compared to four for the Foresters.

Grinnell keeper Peyton Dixon '27 posted another strong outing, recording three saves.

Grinnell takes to the road again Tuesday for a MWC test at Knox College. Kickoff in Galesburg, Ill., is set for 4:30 p.m.
