Grinnell volleyball team secures split as Brewer reaches 2,000-assist milestone

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Grinnell College bounced back from a loss to nationally-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College to easily sweep past Carleton College in a volleyball triangular Saturday.

The Pioneers stopped the Knights by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-16 to improve to 7-7 on the season. Grinnell, which extended its winning streak against Carleton to three matches, saw Emily Brewer '24 become the sixth Pioneer to reach the 2,000-assist milestone during the match. Brewer had 28 assists and now has 2,009 in her career. 

Jenna Keller '24 led a balanced hitting attack with 10 kills, while Millie Leonard '27 and Keira Sullivan '27 had six each. Leonard hit .667 for the match.

Brewer also served up three aces and moved to the No. 15 spot in Pioneer history with 91 career aces. Keller had two aces. Sophie Weber '25 led the team in digs with 12.

Earlier in the day, 18th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus sneaked past the Pioneers 25-20, 25-19 and 25-14. Sullivan led Grinnell with eight kills, while Brewer added 25 assists. Weber tallied 17 digs and Keller came up with 10.

Grinnell travels to Dubuque on Friday to face Loras College and Augustana College.
