GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College owned several facets of Tuesday's hard-fought soccer match against a scrappy Knox College team Tuesday afternoon before the squads settled for a 0-all deadlock at Springer Field.
Grinnell (2-3-5, 0-0-2 Midwest Conference) won the shots battle 18-8, had a 7-2 edge in shots on goal and tallied three corners compared to one for Knox (3-5-2, 0-0-1 MWC). The Pioneers dominated both halves, outshooting Knox 8-3 in the first and 10-5 in the last 45 minutes.
Zak Serby '25 fired off four shots for Grinnell,
Samuel Gojjam '27 added three and
Anthony Hong '27,
Dylan Maddux '25,
Jaxon Willoughby '26 and
Demi Oni '27 added two apiece. Taking one shot each were
Ryan Huang '26,
Owen Wilson '25 and
Billy Cherres '26.
Jayson Kunkel '26 earned the shutout at keeper for Grinnell, making two saves in the process. It was his third shutout of the season and fourth in his career.
Grinnell will play four games in a row on the road, beginning with a Saturday date at Ripon College. The MWC contest begins at 11 a.m.
