Grinnell women's tennis team clinches 6th consecutive Midwest Conference crown

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Playing in a setting befitting a championship match, Grinnell College's women's tennis team rose to the occasion Saturday.

The Pioneers toppled Lake Forest College 5-2 in a battle of unbeatens to claim their sixth Midwest Conference title in a row, eighth since 2016-17 and 20th overall. The Pioneers have won 45 consecutive matches against league foes, dating back to 2018-19.

Grinnell finished league play with a 6-0 mark while completing fall team play with a 9-0 mark. Lake Forest finished second in the league standings at 5-1 while dipping to 9-1 overall.

The Pioneers opened the match by earning the doubles point available, as Paige Sargent '27 and Anika Sheth '26 won 6-3 at the second slot and Sydney Marin '25 and Utsah Kalra '25 were victorious 6-2 at No. 3.

Grinnell finished off with four singles wins, those coming from Kalra at No. 3 (7-6, 6-2), Lily Perrin '25 at No. 4 (6-1, 6-3), Kalea Martin '25 at No. 5 (7-6, 7-6) and Marin at No. 6 (6-0, 6-2).

Earlier in the day, facing another unbeaten team in North Park University, the Pioneers gained a 5-2 victory as Perrin earned sole possession of the program's career mark for doubles victories with 72.

Perrin and Erin Jarvis '25 won 6-2 at the top spot and Sargent teamed with Sheth for an identical 6-2 victory at No. 2.

Grinnell's singles winners were Sargent at No. 1 (6-3, 6-2), Kalra at No. 3 (6-2, 6-7, 6-1), Perrin at No. 4 (6-0, 6-1) and Sheth at No. 5 (6-3, 6-7, 1-0).

The MWC Individual Tournament is slated for next weekend in Madison, Wis.
