Grinnell netters post yet another sweep of Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. - Grinnell's winning streak against a Midwest Conference foe grew larger Saturday afternoon, as the Pioneers' volleyball team swept away Lawrence University in three sets.

The victory was Grinnell's eighth in a row over the Vikings, dating back to 2016. Additionally, Grinnell has won 16 consecutive sets against Lawrence since 2018.

Grinnell won Saturday by scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-17 to improve to 15-5. Lawrence fell to 1-2 in the MWC and 6-16 overall.

The Pioneers outhit the Vikings .234 to .182 and were led by Jenna Keller '25, who pounded down 14 kills while posting a. .379 efficiency. Classmate Emily Brewer '25 added 23 assists and served three aces, while Ella O'Neill '25 came up with two blocks. In the digs department, Sophie Weber '25 posted 13.

The Pioneers led the first set just 21-19 before closing with a four-point run that included an ace by Brewer and kill by Hayley Taka '26. The second set was also close, with the hosts holding a 21-20 lead before a four-point run from Grinnell that included two kills by O'Neill. The teams traded points after that, with Keira Sullivan's '27 kill ending the set.

Grinnell turned an 11-7 lead into a 17-8 cushion in the next set with a big run that included two kills by both Brewer and Keller. The Pioneers were never challenged again.

Grinnell is on the road next weekend, as well, playing at Illinois College Friday and at Knox College Saturday.
