Keller hits 1,000-kill milestone as Pioneer volleyball team shuts out Knox

GALESBURG, Iowa - Jenna Keller '25 became just the eighth Grinnell College volleyball player to reach the 1,000-kill milestone for her career as the Pioneers disposed of Knox College in straight sets Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers posted their fifth consecutive shutout over the Prairie Fire and stretched their winning streak to a season-high six matches with the 25-16, 25-17 and 25-20 decision.

Keller posted 11 kills and now has 1,006 in her career, which ranks seventh all-time at Grinnell. Keller also posted a scorching .360 hitting efficiency as the Pioneers hit .286, third-best this season.

Grinnell served up a season-best 15 aces, which ranks third in program history in three-set matches.

Hayley Taka '26 added 10 kills and hit a career-best .600. Emily Brewer '25 and Kylie-Ann Smith '27 dished out 12 and 11 assists, respectively, while Brewer served five aces and Gabby Choy '26 had four. In the digs department, Sophie Weber '25 tallied 10.

The Pioneers displayed their depth, as 13 players saw action on the day.

Grinnell (4-0 in the Midwest Conference, 17-5 overall) in all matches, shot out to a 6-0 lead in the first set thanks to a pair of aces by Choy. The set was never in question after that.

The second set was closer, with the Pioneers leading 16-15 before a key three-point run to pull away. Ahead 21-17 a bit later, Grinnell closed out the set with four points with Gracie Lim '28 serving an ace and Keller and Nicole Mlynski '26 each getting kills.

Grinnell and Knox (1-3 in the MWC, 1-18 in all matches) were tied 4-all in the third set before the Pioneers went on a four-point run and never looked back.

The Pioneers will head east for their spring break, playing three matches beginning with nationally-ranked New York University on Wednesday.
