Grinnell men's soccer team erupts for most goals in 3 seasons during shutout victory at Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's soccer team scored its most goals in a match in more than three years in a 7-0 rout of Buena Vista University Sunday afternoon.

The contest was never in question, as Grinnell broke out to a 5-0 halftime lead. The five goals are tied for ninth-most for a half in program history.

Dylan Maddux '25 recorded a hat trick for the Pioneers, scoring twice in the first half and again in the second. He now has 61 points in his career, 10th in GC history.

Maddux also had an assist to boost his career total to 23, which puts him alone in second on the Pioneers' all-time chart.

Samuel Gojjam '27 scored two goals and Zak Serby '25 recorded a pair of assists in the game, the sixth-most in program history. As a team, Grinnell boosted its season assists total to 29. That is sixth-best all-time.

Oliver Northing '26 gave the Pioneers the only goal they'd need just 10 minutes in on an assist by Maddux. It was Northing's first goal of the season and 12th in his career.

Maddux added consecutive goals just two and five minutes after that, with Northing assisting the first.

Gojjam scored in the 31st minute on an assist by Demi Oni '27, and Jaxon Willoughby '26 added a goal four minutes later on Serby's assist. Willoughby has two goals this season and eight in his career.

In the second half, Maddux scored his team-high seventh goal and 19th in his career in the 59th minute. Serby had the assist. Gojjam then provided a goal in the 85th minute, his fifth of the year and ninth of his career.

Jayson Kunkel '26 and Caden O'Neil '28 combined on the shutout at the keeper spot. Kunkel had one save.

The 5-4-5 Pioneers owned the shots battle 15-2, with a 10-1 edge in the first half. Grinnell also had three corners compared to one for the 9-8 Beavers.

The Pioneers jump back into Midwest Conference play Wednesday when Cornell College visits Springer Field for a 4 p.m. test.
