GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's volleyball team continued its recent dominance of Luther College Saturday afternoon, beating the Norse for the third time in the last four meetings.
The Pioneers, who swept Luther for the second time in the last four meetings, won by scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-18 at Darby Gymnasium.
Grinnell's hitting attack was on fire, as the Pioneers posted a season-best .323 efficiency with 39 kills on 93 swings and just nine errors. The Pioneers held Luther to just .023 hitting.
Jenna Keller '25 was spectacular, hitting .481 with 16 kills.
Keira Sullivan '27 added 10 kills and hit .421, while
Millie Leonard '27 had a .429 efficiency.
Emily Brewer '25, who prior to the match was honored for reaching 3,000 assists in her career, had 32 on Saturday.
Gracie Lim '28 had a career-best four aces and
Gabby Choy '26 served three.
Hayley Taka '26 and
Ella O'Neill '25 each posted three blocks and
Sophie Weber '25 came up with 15 digs.
Grinnell led the first set 9-5 before going on an eight-point run that included a trio of block assists by both Taka and O'Neill. Choy served Grinnell out to a 6-0 lead in the second set with the aid of two aces as the Pioneers again won with ease.
Luther grabbed a 13-12 lead in the third set, but a three-point run that included an ace by Lim put the Pioneers ahead 15-13. Grinnell never trailed again, thanks to a key five-point run that included four kills by Keller.
At 14-5, Grinnell has already surpassed last season's win total. Luther fell to 4-15.
Grinnell is off for a week before meeting Lawrence University next Saturday in Appleton, Wis. The first serve is set for 1 p.m.
