Results

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's swimming and diving team attacked the record book, and then some, in taking a commanding lead at its own Pioneer Classic Friday.

Kevin Fitzgerald '25 led the charge with two individual school and meet records, and a pair of relay meet marks. He established school, meet and pool marks in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:49.46 and 100 butterfly in 49.16. The previous school mark in the IM was 1:50.91 by Hall of Famer Michael Brus in 2014, while the old fly record was 49.31 set last year by Ethan Yuen. Fitzgerald's IM time was also an NCAA "B" cut. Yuen had the old fly meet record of 49.37 from last year and the previous 200 IM record was 1:54.07, set by Garrett Cadotte of Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2016.

Grinnell also set a meet mark in the 800 freestyle relay with Evan Feilmeyer '28, Noah Tsukuda '27, Cadel Saszik '28 and Fitzgerald. Their time of 6:53.41, which ranks third in program history, broke the previous meet record of 6:59.04 by Grinnell last year.

Saszik, Chris Zhou '27, Feilmeyer and Fitzgerald won the 400 medley relay in 3:22.49, breaking last year's meet record of 3:23.53 by Grinnell. That time ranks second in program history.

Saszik had the other meet record while winning the 200 backstroke in 1:50.56, breaking the mark of 1:52.74 by Grinnell's Sean Colson in 2022. Saszik's time ranks fourth in program history.

Other champs were Tsukuda in the 500 freestyle (4:42.05), Keely Yeager ' 27 in the 200 breaststroke (2:07.22, eighth all-time) and the 200 freestyle relay team of Evan Feilmeyer, Adam Feilmeyer '25, Fitzgerald and Aidan Donovan '28 (1:24.30, third all-time).

Grinnell has 1,484 points after the first day, well ahead of runner-up Morningside University's total of 641.
