GC men unable to come back from early deficit in loss at Beloit College

Pioneers close regular season at home Saturday against Monmouth

BELOIT, Wis. - Grinnell College fell in a quick hole and was never able to rebound as Beloit College posted a 117-97 victory in Midwest Conference men's basketball action Wednesday.

The Buccaneers scored the game's first seven points and never trailed. Still, Grinnell (17-6, 11-4 MWC) did make a run after trailing 14-8 as Kai Te Huki '27 sank a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer to bring the visitors within a point.

But Beloit (16-8, 9-6 MWC) scored 11 unanswered points on its way to a 56-43 halftime lead. The hosts opened the second half with four consecutive points and pulled away after that.

Grinnell featured a balanced scoring attack with four players in double figures, led by Te Huki's 21 points. Jordan Lee '27, who drained a half-dozen 3-pointers, added 20 points, Gabe Garcia '27 had 19 and Ryan Tarighi '27 poured in 13.

Nick Lundy '27 led the Pioneers' rebounding efforts with a career-high seven boards, Lee dished out five assists and Nick Courtney '26 and Dillon Gestring '25 had two steals each.

Grinnell closes out the regular season Saturday when it hosts Monmouth College in a Senior Day affair. Tip-off is 1 p.m. and Senior Day activities for the women and men will be between games around 2:45 p.m.

The Pioneers will get a chance to avenge Wednesday's loss as they'll meet Beloit College in the opening round of the MWC Tournament next Friday in Jacksonville, Ill. Grinnell has earned the second seed for the event which will be hosted by Illinois College, and the Buccaneers will be the No. 3 seed.
