GC men's basketball team comes up short at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - A big Lake Forest College run in the first half spelled trouble for the Grinnell College men's basketball team Saturday afternoon.

The Foresters used a 12-point spurt to break away from an 11-9 deficit on their way to a 128-102 victory over the Pioneers in Midwest Conference play.

Grinnell, which had its four-game winning streak snapped, is one game behind Illinois College in the league standings at 10-3. The Pioneers are 16-5 overall, while Lake Forest improved to 5-7 in the MWC and 7-14 in all games.

Kai Te Huki '27 kept up his hot hand for Grinnell with 35 points, while David Bluder '25 scored 15 and Gabe Garcia '27 put in 11. Zach Rosen '26 added six boards, Te Huki came up with three assists and also had three steals.

Tolu Johnson '25 blocked two shots and is now 12th on Grinnell's all-time list with 44.

The game was tight early before Grinnell grabbed its final lead of 11-9 on Bluder's trey. The Foresters responded with their run, and used another late in the first half for a 66-42 halftime lead.

Lake Forest held off any potential Pioneer charges in the second half to secure the victory.

Grinnell has a huge test Wednesday when Illinois College visits Darby Gymnasium in a game that will go a long way in determining the conference championship. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
