Grinnell baseball team sees its offense go wild in high-scoring affair with Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. - After being limited to two runs by Hendrix College Monday, Grinnell College's baseball team saw its bats explode in Tuesday's rematch.

Though Hendrix won 11-8, the Pioneers pounded out 10 hits and shot out to an early lead with four runs in the opening inning.

Mac McCain '25 continued his hot swinging with three hits, while Ian Brown '24 added two. McCain had an RBI double to right field in the first inning, Nikolas Ruden '26 scored on a wild pitch, another run crossed on an error and Nathan McCurdy '25 had an RBI on a fielder's choice.

Hendrix (14-5) tied it with four runs in the bottom of the first and scored two more in the fourth. The Pioneers got a run back in the sixth on McCurdy's RBI groundout.

After the hosts went ahead 10-5, Grinnell (7-9) got two runs in the seventh on McCain's two-run single to left-center. Hendrix made it 11-7 in the bottom of the seventh. The Pioneers got their final run in the ninth on Brown's run-scoring single to left-center.

Matthew Nakamoto '25 was the pitcher of record for Grinnell.

The Pioneers are set to open Midwest Conference play this weekend against Ripon College.
