Grinnell men wrap up successful spring break trip with 8-1 win over Oberlin

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Grinnell College's men's tennis team finished a successful spring break trip on a strong note Monday, shutting down Oberlin College 8-1.

The 15-3 Pioneers opened up a 3-0 lead through doubles play with victories by the duos of Lucas Willett '26-Aiden Klass '25 (8-3), Henry Bridgers '24-Sam Rudenberg '25 (8-3) and Wilder Cooke '25-Leo Esztergomi '24 (8-1).

Singles winners were Cooke at No. 1 (7-6, 6-2), Klass at No. 3 (6-4, 4-6, 1-0), Jacob Young '27 at No. 4 (6-2, 6-3), Anshul Satav '27 at No. 5 (6-4, 6-1) and Charles Yung '24 at No. 6 (6-3, 5-7, 1-0).

Earlier in the day, the 38th-ranked Pioneers dropped a 6-3 decision to No. 22 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Grinnell's winners, all in singles, were Cooke at No. 1 (6-4, 6-2), Esztergomi at No. 3 (7-5, 7-6) and Albert Bostoen '26 at No. 6 (6-4, 1-6, 1-0).

Grinnell, which went 5-1 on its spring break trip, opens Midwest Conference play April 6 with home matches against Illinois College and Monmouth College.
