Grinnell women's tennis team shuts down nationally-ranked UW-Whitewater

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Grinnell College's women's tennis team not only defeated nationally-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Monday, the Pioneers dominated the match.

Grinnell had little trouble disposing of the 37th-ranked Warhawks, posting a 9-0 victory. The Pioneers opened with a sweep of doubles play by the duos of Ioanna Giannakou '24-Lily Perrin '25 (8-4), Irene Agusti '24-Erin Jarvis '25 (8-2) and Isa Voinescu '26-Paige Sargent '27 (8-1).

Singles winners were Agusti (2-6, 7-6, 1-0), Giannakou (6-3, 6-1), Perrin (7-5, 6-1), Sargent (6-1, 6-4), Utsah Kalra '25 (6-1, 6-2) and Jarvis (6-3, 6-1).

Grinnell followed with an 8-1 victory over Oberlin College to improve to 17-2, the eighth-most victories in program history. The Pioneers wrapped up their spring break trip with a 5-1 mark.

The Pioneers got doubles wins from the teams of Giannakou-Sargent (8-3) and Jarvis-Perrin (8-2). Winning at the Nos. 2 through 5 singles spots were Nichole Henning '26 (6-1, 3-6, 1-0), Anika Sheth '26 at No. 3 (6-0, 6-1), Tan Mukherjee '26 at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0) and Nehir Ergun '26 at No. 5 (6-1, 6-1).

During the day's action, Giannakou moved up to 13th in career singles victories with 48, Kalra to 17th with 45 and Agusti to 22nd with 40. On the career doubles list, Giannakou is now sixth with 61, Perrin is 13th with 55 and Jarvis ranks 24th with 46.

Grinnell will compete in the Midwest Invite April 5-6 in Madison, Wis.
