Grinnell men punch ticket to 17th consecutive NCAA D-III Tourney with another MWC Tournament crown

MADISON, Wis. - For the Grinnell College men's tennis team, the beat simply goes on.

The Pioneers advanced to their 17th consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament by winning the Midwest Conference Team Tournament Friday at Nielsen Tennis Center. The MWC Tourney crown is Grinnell's 20th in a row and 21st overall. 

Grinnell opened the day by blanking Lawrence University 5-0, the Pioneers' eighth consecutive first-round shutout in tourney history. It also marked Grinnell's 32nd shutout in its past 37 matches against MWC foes.

The Pioneers followed with a 5-2 victory over Lake Forest College in the title match, stretching the program's winning streak against MWC foes to 188 matches dating back to 2002-03.

Grinnell opened the Lawrence victory with a doubles sweep by the duos of Aiden Klass '25-Lucas Willett '26 (8-2), Sam Rudenberg '25-Henry Bridgers '24 (8-1) and Albert Bostoen '26-Wilder Cooke '25 (8-0). Grinnell finished the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory by Bostoen at No. 3 singles and 6-0, 6-1 decision by Keegan McLaughlin '27 at No. 6. 

Cooke, Rudenberg, Charles Yung '24 and Spencer Skidmore '24 also led their singles matches when the victory was clinched.

In the title match, Grinnell got out to a 2-1 lead through doubles with victories of 8-5 by the duo of Klass-Willett at No. 1 and 8-4 by Bostoen-Cooke at No. 3. Finishing off the match were singles wins by Rudenberg at No. 3 (6-0, 6-2), Bostoen at No. 5 (6-2, 6-2) and Bridgers at No. 6 (6-3, 6-3). Willett and Klass also led their singles matches when Grinnell clinched.

Grinnell improved to 24-3 with the victories, the sixth-highest win total in program history.

The Pioneers now switch their focus to the league individual tournament Saturday and Sunday, also at the Nielsen Tennis Center.
