Grinnell men's tennis team captures 4 Midwest Conference individual titles

Willett and Klass are 2-time champs

MADISON, Wis. - Two Grinnell College men's tennis players collected a pair of championships apiece at the 2024 Midwest Conference Individual Tournament Sunday.

Lucas Willett '26 claimed top honors at No. 2 singles at Nielsen Tennis Center, Aiden Klass '25 was champ at No. 3 singles and they teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles crown. Willett was also a singles and doubles champ at last year's tourney and Klass was a defending singles titleist.  

Also winning a title were Albert Bostoen '26 and Wilder Cooke '25 at No. 3 doubles. Cooke is now a three-time MWC champ.

Willett defeated a Lake Forest College player 6-1, 3-2, retired in the No. 2 title match and Klass defeated a foe from Cornell College 7-6, 6-2. Singles runners-up for Grinnell were Cooke at No. 1, Bostoen at No. 4 and Luka Shaker-Check '25 at No. 6. Charles Yung '24 was the consolation champ at No. 5.

Klass and Willett defeated a foe from Illinois College 8-1 at No. 1 doubles and then topped a Lake Forest duo 8-6 for the title. Bostoen and Cooke won 8-2 against a team from Lawrence University and beat their Lake Forest opponent 8-4 in the championship.

At No. 2 doubles, Sam Rudenberg '25 and Henry Bridgers '24 took second, beating a team from Ripon College 8-2 before losing to a duo from Lake Forest in the championship.

Grinnell will now turn its focus to the 2024 NCAA Division III Championships. Pairings will be announced May 6.
