Grinnell men's tennis team stretches lengthy winning streak with NCAA Tourney-opening victory

WHITEWATER, Wis. - Grinnell College's men's tennis team extended its winning streak to 11 matches Friday afternoon, taking down Ohio Northern University 5-1 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The 32nd-ranked Pioneers reached the 25-win plateau for only the sixth time in program history while advancing to the second round of the national tourney for the second year in a row. They will bring a 25-3 mark into Saturday's noon matchup against No. 11 Denison University.

Grinnell got out to a strong start, jumping to a 2-1 lead through doubles play with an 8-6 victory by the duo of Aiden Klass '25-Lucas Willett '26 at No. 1 and 8-4 decision by Wilder Cooke '25 and Henry Bridgers '24 at No. 3. Willett now has 25 doubles wins this season, 13th-best in program history.

The Pioneers finished things off in singles with a 6-3, 6-1 decision by Cooke at No. 1, a 6-1, 6-2 victory by Klass at No. 4 and 6-1, 6-2 win by Albert Bostoen '26 at No. 5. Willett and Sam Rudenberg '25 led their matches before the Pioneers clinched the team victory.
