Grinnell finishes home volleyball tournament with unblemished mark

GRINNELL, Iowa - If its early-season home volleyball tournament is an indication, Grinnell College's volleyball team should be in for a great campaign.

The Pioneers breezed through the tourney with an unbeaten mark, the first time the hosts have done that since 2019. After opening the Grinnell/Central Invite with a pair of sweeps Friday night at Darby Gymnasium, the Pioneers toppled the College of St. Scholastica 3-1 Saturday morning and followed with a 3-0 victory over Bethany Lutheran University in the afternoon.

Jenna Keller '25 and Millie Leonard '27 each earned All-Tournament Team honors for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers rallied against St. Scholastica, winning sets two through four by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-23 after losing the first 25-19.

Keira Sullivan '27 and Leonard led the Pioneers' hitting attack with 14 and 10 kills, respectively. Sullivan hit .367 and Leonard added a .500 clip.

Emily Brewer '25 tallied 27 assists and five service aces, while Sophie Weber '25 came up with 23 digs. Hayley Taka '26 added 10 digs.

Grinnell finished off the day by rolling over Bethany Lutheran University 25-14, 25-15 and 25-17. The Pioneers owned the net, posting a .235 hitting efficiency while holding Bethany Lutheran to minus-.075.

Keller led the balanced hitting attack for Grinnell with eight kills and a .263 efficiency. Taka hit .368 and Leonard was at .357.

In the assists department, Kylie-Ann Smith '27 and Brewer were in double digits with 15 and 11. Amelia Adam '25 came up with two aces and Leonard posted three blocks. Weber finished with 22 digs.

Grinnell will bring its unblemished 4-0 mark into a non-conference match at Buena Vista University Tuesday in Storm Lake. Action begins at 6 p.m.
