Pioneers put together complete-match performance to extend winning streak against Coe

Grinnell women's soccer team blanks Coe 3-0

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's soccer team extended its winning - and shutout - string against Coe College to four matches with a 3-0 blanking of the Kohawks on a picture-perfect Sunday afternoon at Springer Field.

The three goals are the most Grinnell has scored against Coe since 2014 as the Pioneers improved to 1-1 on the season. The Kohawks dipped to 0-1.

Grinnell won with a potent combination of offense and defense, scoring on a third of its attempted shots while prevening the Kohawks from taking any shots.

Grinnell got all the scoring it would need 10 minutes into the game when Maya Mozena '28 scored the first goal of her collegiate career on an assist by Tori Thomas '25. In front of the box, Thomas beat her defender and delivered the ball to Mozena. Mozena quickly lofted a perfectly-place 25-yard shot from the right side just over the keeper's extended arms and into the net.

Reese Komsthoeft '25 gave the Pioneers a 2-0 halftime lead when she scored in the 32nd minute on a free kick. The line-drive boot from just outside the upper-left corner of the box went through the keeper's hands and into the goal.

Amelia Dueñas '26 provided the Pioneers some insurance with a score in the 87th minute against a strong wind. Julia Marlin '27, who had the assist, began the play with a corner kick from the left side. The ball went into the box and bounced a bit before Dueñas connected from 6 yards out.

Peyton Dixon '27 posted the complete-match shutout at keeper for Grinnell.

Komsthoeft had three of Grinnell's shots, while Sarah Travis '27, Beya VanRheenen '26, Mozena, Giada Bambi '25, Maddie Beltramo '25 and Dueñas had one apiece.

Grinnell is at home again Friday when Mount Mercy University visits Springer Field for a 5 pm. test.
