Pioneer men's basketball team falls at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Grinnell College dug a hole midway through the second half and couldn't quite get out as the Pioneers dropped a 127-116 men's basketball victory Saturday afternoon at Lake Forest College.

Grinnell built a 59-52 late in the first half when treys by Zach Rosen '26 and Jordan Lee '27 turned a one-point edge into a seven-point lead. However, the Foresters rallied to tie the game at 64-all by halftime.

A 3-pointer by Kai Te Huki '27 a few minutes into the second half put the Pioneers ahead 76-73. The Foresters posted a comeback of their own before Te Huki forced the final tie of the game when his layup made it 81-all with 13:25 left.

Lake Forest then went to work, building a double-digit lead. Grinnell (10-3, 3-1 Midwest Conference) had a last-ditch comeback attempt, closing within seven at 119-112 with 1:10 left. However, Lake Forest (4-8, 1-2 MWC) held on down the stretch for the win.

Gabe Garcia '27 led a charge of five Grinnell players to score in double figures with 19 points. Te Huki added 16, Lee and Jackson Leone '25 had 11 apiece and Sean Walser '26 scored 10. Nick Courtney '27 added a career-high nine.

Tolu Johnson '25 and John Vincent '26 each had eight rebounds, with Vincent's being a career-best. Harris Dar '28 led the team in assists with six and Rosen posted four steals.
