Late goal lifts Grinnell women's soccer team to 2-all draw with Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A goal with just over a minute left propelled Grinnell College's women's soccer team to a 2-all draw at Coe College in non-conference action Saturday afternoon on the Kohawks' pitch.

The goal that clinched the tie for Grinnell (4-5-4) came following a Pioneer corner kick from the left side that resulted in a scramble for the ball in front of the net. In the ensuing battle for possession, a Kohawk defender deflected the ball into the goal.

Coe (2-7-4) opened the scoring just 18 minutes in, but 13 minutes later Zoe Kunzman '28 evened the match with the first goal in her collegiate career. The score came on a corner kick from the right side, which Kunzman perfectly angled to the far post past the leaping keeper's outstretched arms.

Coe scored five minutes into the second period and held the 2-1 edge until Grinnell's late score.

Grinnell won the shots battle 13-12 and blanked Coe in corner kicks by a 6-0 margin. Kunzman had five of Grinnell's shots, while Sarah Travis '27 and Ramona Delborne '26 had two apiece. Taking one shot each were Keiko Smith '26, Teya Lochridge '29, Kate Chung '29 and Elsa Nielsen '27.

Peyton Dixon '27 worked in goal for the Pioneers and made seven saves.

The Pioneers finish the home portion of their 2025 home schedule next week with two matches, beginning with a Tuesday meeting against Beloit College. Kickoff at Springer Field is set for 4 p.m.
