Grinnell women's tennis team takes step closer to league title with convincing win over Lake Forest

GRINNELL, Iowa - Facing a strong Lake Forest College team in the most anticipated dual match of the 2025 fall campaign, Grinnell College's women's tennis team passed the test with flying colors.

The Pioneers put together a stellar performance Saturday morning at 10th Avenue Courts, posting a convincing 6-1 victory over the Foresters in a match pitting two teams unbeaten in Midwest Conference play.

The victory, Grinnell's 52nd in a row against MWC foes, boosted the hosts to 5-0 both overall and in the league. The Pioneers entertain Cornell College at 11 a.m. tomorrow with a league title on the line.

Grinnell showed it meant business from the start by sweeping the three doubles matches. The duos of Isa Voinescu '26-Paige Sargent '27 and Logan Tom '29-Pari Chavan '27 each won 6-3 at the top two spots, while Nichole Henning '26 and Anika Sheth '26 combined on a 6-0 shutout at No. 3.

The Pioneers followed that up by winning five of six singles matches, including a 7-6, 1-6, 10-8 marathon victory by Chavan at the top spot. Voinescu and Tom won by identical 6-4, 6-1 scores at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, Sheth earned a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 5 and Henning was a 6-1, 6-4 victor at No. 6.

Lake Forest dipped to 4-1 in the MWC with the loss and 8-2 in all matches.
