GRINNELL, Iowa – The streak continues for the Grinnell College women's tennis team.
The Pioneers sewed up their seventh Midwest Conference title in a row, ninth since 2016-17 and 21
st overall on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at 10
th Avenue Courts with a 4-3 decision over Cornell College.
Grinnell, which has won 53 consecutive matches against league foes dating back to 2018-19, improved to 6-0 both in the MWC and overall. Cornell finished league play at 4-2 while dipping to 10-3 in all matches.
With the title comes the top seed in next spring's NCAA Division III Tournament qualifier, where the Pioneers will face fourth-seeded Illinois College in the semifinal round.
Grinnell dropped the doubles point Sunday before responding in big fashion in singles. The Pioneers did win 6-2 at No. 3 doubles with the duo of
Isa Voinescu '26 and
Marta Gonzalez '29.
In singles, the Pioneers clinched the match victory with wins at Nos. 3 through 6 via
Luiza Kohn '29 (7-5, 6-1),
Keira Healy '28 (7-6, 6-0), Gonzalez (6-2, 6-2) and
Eliana Martin '29 (6-0, 6-2).
Grinnell will head to Madison, Wis., next weekend to compete in the MWC Individual Tournament.
