GC men's soccer team puts up great fight against nationally-ranked Foresters

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Grinnell College's men's soccer team played nationally-ranked Lake Forest College nearly equal in statistical terms, but the Foresters still came away with a 2-0 victory Saturday afternoon.

Lake Forest, ranked 13th in NCAA Division III, broke a scoreless tie in the 24th minute and added a goal less than a minute before halftime. The Foresters made that lead stick.

Grinnell, 3-2-2 in the Midwest Conference and 4-7-5 in all games, will have to wait until next weekend to secure a spot in the league tournament field. Lake Forest improved to 7-0 in the MWC and 16-1 in all contests.

The Pioneers, who were only outshot 7-5 and held a 7-3 edge in corners, saw Jack Pennachio '28 take two shots and Demi Oni '27, Ian O'Loughlin '28 and Zander Salva '29 getting one apiece.

Grinnell keeper Jack Alexander '29 made one save.

The Pioneers step out of league play Tuesday when Gustavus Adolphus College visits Springer Field. Action begins at 3:30 p.m.
