2nd-half rally by Macalester sinks Grinnell men's basketball team

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Grinnell College's men's basketball team built a halftime lead, but Macalester College stormed back in the second half to secure a 126-114 victory Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers trailed by seven with just over three minutes to go in the opening half before closing with a 12-0 blitz. With their team down 55-48, Gabe Garcia '27 made a free throw and Zach Rosen '26 drained a trey and layup to bring the Pioneers within a point.

Garcia added two more free throws, Kai Te Huki '27 made a jumper and Kingston Bristol '29 contributed a layup for a 60-55 halftime lead.

The Pioneers continued to hold the hosts at bay in the early part of the second half, building an 80-75 lead on Nick Lundy's '27 3-pointer.

However, Macalester responded with an 11-1 run to go ahead 86-81. Grinnell (2-1) managed to answer, though, tying the game at 91-all on Sean Murphy's '26 3-pointer with 10:00 left.

Again the Scots came back, going on a 12-2 run for a 103-93 lead with 6:53 remaining. Macalester (2-2) continued to cruise from there for the win.
