Another school record tumbles for Grinnell on final day of University of Chicago meet

Donovan establishes new mark in 100 freestyle

CHICAGO - It was another record-breaking day for the Grinnell College men's swimming and diving team at the University of Chicago 16th Annual Phoenix Fall Classic Sunday.

Aidan Donovan '28 broke the school record in the 100-yard freestyle, and achieved an NCAA "B" cut in the process, by swimming the race in 44.89 seconds for fourth place. The previous school mark, set last season, was 44.96. It was Donovan's third school record achieved in the meet.

Also in the race, Spencer Pfaff '29 was 17th in 46.26 and Rommin Adl '26 placed 20th in 46.61. Pfaff's time of 46.18 in the prelims ranks eighth in GC history.

The Pioneer 400 freestyle relay quartet of Donovan, Pfaff, Evan Feilmeyer '28 and Adl placed fourth in 3:00.95, a time that ranks second in GC history. Feilmeyer added a fifth-place finish in the 200 butterfly in 1:50.47.

In the 200 backstroke, Evan Ingraham '29 was 10th in 1:52.17 and Cadel Saszik '28 took 16th in 1:53.43. Ingraham's time of 1:50.54 in the prelims ranks fourth in GC history.

Noah Tsukuda '27 was 15th in the 1650 freestyle in 16:23.57, while Keely Yeager '27 was 18th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:06.05. Jafar Jarrar '27 swam 2:12.66 in the 200 breaststroke to rank 19th all-time.

Grinnell finished sixth in the team standings with 802 points. New York University was the winner with 2779.5.
