GC women's basketball team comes up short at UW-Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Grinnell College's women's basketball team put up a good fight against a squad receiving votes for the national rankings Sunday, but in the end dropped a 66-42 decision on the final day of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Tournament.

Facing the tourney host, Grinnell (2-6) fell behind 16-10 after one period. The Pioneers were within seven points at 23-16 midway through the second frame after Ava Wu's '29 free throws, but the host school finished the half with a 12-7 run for a 35-23 halftime cushion.

UW-Platteville (6-1) followed that up with a 14-8 scoring edge in the third period on its way to a 24-point victory.

Grinnell rode a balanced scoring attack, with Nora Lynch '28 and Cassidy Pak '28 each scoring nine and Kelsey Ericksen '26 and Juniper Schwartzman '27 adding six each. Lynch drained three treys and Ericksen sank two.

Schwartzman also had five boards and Skylar Thomas '26 pulled down four. In the assists department, Schwartzman and Pak each dished out three. Megan Walters '29 contributed a blocked shot.

Grinnell jumps back into Midwest Conference play Tuesday when Cornell College visits Darby Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. after the men's game.
