Pioneer men's soccer team falls to Lake Forest in MWC Tourney title match

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Grinnell College saw nationally-ranked Lake Forest College use a big second half to pull away for a 4-0 victory in the Midwest Conference Men's Soccer Tournament title match Saturday afternoon.

Lake Forest, ranked 19th in NCAA Division III, led just 1-0 at halftime before erupting for three goals in a 20-minute span of the second stanza. The victory pushes the Foresters into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Grinnell, which finishes at 6-8-5, outshot the hosts 5-3 in the first half before the Foresters earned an 8-3 edge in the last 45 minutes. Grinnell won the corner kicks battle 5-3.

Samuel Gojjam '27 had three of Grinnell's shots, Jack Pennachio '28 added two and Demi Oni '27, Ian O'Loughlin '28 and Kanata Mizutani '28 had one apiece.

Jack Alexander '29, who shared Grinnell keeper duties with Jayson Kunkel '26, had four saves.

Lake Forest advances with a 19-1 mark.
