Grinnell women's tennis team opens spring portion of slate with setback at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Grinnell College's women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2024-25 campaign with a big task, facing 18th-ranked Sewanee on Friday.

Sewanee came away with a 6-1 victory, with the Pioneers getting their win at No. 1 singles as Pari Chavan '27 defeated the nation's 40th-ranked player by a 4-3, retired decision.

Paige Sargent '27 took six games from her singles foe at No. 2 singles, while Utsah Kalra '25 and Anika Sheth '26 each won five games at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. At No. 2 doubles, Sargent and Isa Voinescu '25 took three games for their foe.

Grinnell, ranked 26th nationally, is 9-1 on the season while the Tigers improved to 1-0.

Grinnell takes on Southwestern University of Texas Saturday.
