GRINNELL, Iowa – Not only did the Grinnell College men's 800-yard freestyle relay team beat the previous Midwest Conference and pool records – the Pioneers destroyed those marks.

The foursome of Evan Feilmeyer '28, Noah Tsukuda '27, Rommin Adl '26 and Kevin Fitzgerald '25 won the opening men's race at the 2025 MWC Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday in a blistering time of 6 minutes, 41.87 seconds. That easily surpassed the previous MWC, MWC Championships, pool and school records of 6:48.17, set by Grinnell in 2014.

Fitzgerald now has 16 MWC titles to his credit, Adl has 13 and Tsukuda a pair. The team's winning time ranks 17th nationally.

Also at Russell K. Osgood Pool on Thursday, Cadel Saszik '28 swam a 200 freestyle time trial in 1:42.82, a clocking that ranks 10th in program history.

The relay team's efforts gave Grinnell 40 points after the opening day of competition. The meet resumes at 10 a.m. Friday.
