Ware reaches 1,000 career points in MWC Tourney title game

RIPON, Wis. - One of the most storied seasons in Grinnell College women's basketball history drew to a close Saturday afternoon with a 67-47 loss to Ripon College in the Midwest Conference Tournament title game.

On a day when Nikki Ware '25 became just the 12th player in GC history to reach 1,000 points, Grinnell finished with its most victories since 1991 with a 19-8 mark. Ripon improved to 23-4 and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Ware finished with 19 points to wrap up her career with 1,002 points. She also finished with 306 field goals, 15th all-time, and 234 free throws, which is 11th. Sara Booher '25 wound up with 305 field goals to rank 16th.

Grinnell, which set a school record with 426 free throws, fell behind 24-8 after one period and couldn't quite recover. The Red Hawks extended their lead to 35-15 by halftime before the Pioneers pushed back, closing within 11 at 43-32 on a pair of free throws by Juniper Schwartzman '27 in the third period.

But the hosts responded, going ahead 51-36 by the end of three quarters and earned the victory from there. Booher led Grinnell with eight rebounds and also blocked two shots. Bailey Strovers '27 had four boards to push her season total to 234, eighth all-time at GC.

On the season chart, Grinnell finished with 213 3-pointers and 599 field goals, which rank fourth and fifth in program history, respectively.
