Cooke's marathon victory at No. 1 singles sparks Pioneer men's tennis team against Babson

CLAREMONT, Calif. - A marathon victory at No. 1 singles by Wilder Cooke '25 highlighted the Grinnell College men's tennis team's effort against Babson College in a showdown of nationally-ranked squads Tuesday.

Babson, ranked 18th in the nation, posted a 6-1 victory over the 33rd-ranked Pioneers.

Cooke won the first set 6-4, lost the next 6-3 and outlasted his foe 11-9 in the third. Lucas Willett '26 took his opponent to three sets at No. 2 singles and Sam Rudenberg '25 did the same at No. 6.

In doubles play, Henry Park '28 and Karch Knoll '25 lost a tight 7-6 decision at the No. 3 slot.

Grinnell, 4-6 overall, meets Bowdoin College and Salisbury University on Wednesday. Babson improved to 9-1 with the win.
