Grinnell men's tennis team blanks Cornell to continue MWC winning streak

Pioneer netters take down Rams by 7-0 score

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's tennis team finished the 2023-24 campaign with one of the nation's longest winning streaks in conference play.

The Pioneers picked up where they left off Saturday, strolling past Cornell College for their 189th consecutive win over Midwest Conference foes dating back to the 2002-03 season.

Grinnell, 5-10 overall and 1-0 in the league, has posted shutouts in 33 of its last 39 matches against MWC opposition. Cornell dipped to 11-7 overall and 0-1 in the MWC.

Grinnell players tasting victory twice Saturday were Lucas Willett '26, Wilder Cooke '25, Sam Rudenberg '25 and Karch Knoll '25.

Willett teamed with Aiden Klass '25 for a 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles, the same winning margin posted by Albert Bostoen '26 and Knoll at No. 3. At No. 2 doubles, Cooke and Rudenberg posted a 6-1 decision.

The Pioneers won four of the six singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 counts. Those victories came from Cooke at No. 1, Willett at No. 2, Henry Park '28 at No. 4 and Aman Kothari '28 at No. 6. Knoll earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles and Rudenberg posted a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5.

Grinnell plays a pair of MWC matches next Saturday, facing both Illinois College and Monmouth College on the road.
