Grinnell men's tennis team drops decision to 4th-ranked University of Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. - Grinnell College's men's tennis team stepped out of league play Sunday to play fourth-ranked University of Chicago, with the host Maroons coming away with a 7-0 victory.

Sam Rudenberg '25 nearly got a singles victory at the No. 6 spot. After losing 6-2 in the opening set, he pulled within 5-5 in the second set before his foe pulled out a 7-5 win.

Lucas Willett '26 got five games off the region's 14th-ranked player at No. 2 singles, while Wilder Cooke '25 and Karch Knoll '25 each won four games against the nation's Nos. 32 and 24 players, respectively, at 1 and 3 singles.

Grinnell will attempt to sew up the regular-season Midwest Conference title Saturday when Ripon College and Lawrence University visit 10th Avenue Courts. On the same day, another Pioneer team will play at Washington University in St. Louis.
