Grinnell women's tennis team wraps up regular season against highly-touted foes

Utsah Kalra highlights the day with victory over nation's No. 48 player

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Utsah Kalra '25 defeated the nation's 48th-ranked player as the Grinnell College women's tennis team wrapped up its regular season Saturday with a pair of matches against highly-touted foes.

Kalra posted a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 2 singles in the Pioneers' 6-1 setback to 10th-ranked Trinity University of Texas. She now ranks sixth in program history for career singles victories with 66.

Anika Sheth '26 put up a good fight at No. 3 singles, winning seven games in the two-set loss. Kayla Surpless '28 won six games at No. 6 singles.

The 42nd-ranked Pioneers then dropped a 7-0 decision to 15th-ranked Washington University of St. Louis. 

Grinnell, 16-9, is off until May 3 when it plays Illinois College in the Midwest Conference Team Tournament semifinal match at Madison, Wis. The winner of the tourney earns the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
