Late chances thwarted as GC loses hard-fought women's soccer battle to Edgewood

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's soccer team provided several thrilling offensive moments in the second half, but Edgewood College staved off every Pioneer chance on its way to a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Springer Field.

The Eagles grabbed the lead in the 12th minute and continued to hold off the Pioneers for a 1-0 halftime edge.

In the second half, the hosts controlled the ball in their offensive portion of the pitch and made several strong approaches at the net, only to have Edgewood thwart the scoring opportunities.

Grinnell (0-1-1) fought until the end, even earning a corner kick in the waning seconds that was nearly put in for a goal.

Edgewood (1-1) held a 9-3 edge in shots and 5-3 advantage in corners, although Grinnell led the latter category 3-2 in the final 45 minutes.

Getting off shots for Grinnell were Campbell Swaim '28, Teya Lochridge '29 and Addison Thornberg '29. Keeper Grayson Allison '28 worked the entire contest in net for Grinnell and made six saves, several in spectacular fashion.

Grinnell is on the road next weekend, playing at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota on Friday and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Saturday.
