Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Ted Schultz

GC women's soccer team dominates Benedictine for first victory of the season

LISLE, Ill. - After some near-misses, Grinnell College's women's soccer team cashed in Saturday by topping Benedictine University 1-0 for its first victory of the 2025 campaign.

The Pioneers dominated throughout, owning a 17-8 edge in shots including 7-0 in the first half.

Grinnell got all the scoring it needed in the 19th minute when Hollye Anne Brinkley '29 tallied her first-ever collegiate goal on an assist by Addison Thornberg '29. On the play, Thornberg played a through ball to the right from about 30 yards out and found Brinkley charging into the box. Brinkley beat the Benedictine keeper, sneaking the ball into the right edge of the net.

Grayson Allison '28 worked the entire game at keeper for the Pioneers, recording five saves while getting her second career shutout.

Keiko Smith '26 paced Grinnell's balanced offensive attack with four shots, while Brinkley, Thornberg and Kate Chung '29 added two apiece. Getting off one shot each were Zoe Kunzman '28, Sarah Travis '27, Teya Lochridge '29, Emily Roesler '28, Amelia Duenas '26, Haylie Wesley '29 and Nikki Styranovski '29.

Grinnell improved to 1-3-1 with the victory, while the hosts fell to 0-5.

Grinnell entertains the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Sunday at Springer Field. Action begins at 1 p.m.
