Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Ted Schultz

Grinnell women's soccer has strong 2nd half in loss to 15th-ranked Eagles

GRINNELL, Iowa - Though Grinnell College's women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to nationally-ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, the Pioneers will take momentum into their final stretch of the regular season.

The 15th-ranked Eagles, who are unbeaten and untied on the season, took a 4-0 lead into halftime after outshooting Grinnell 16-1 in the first 45 minutes and holding a 6-0 edge in corners.

But Grinnell refused to fold, and held a possession edge in the second half with a majority of action happening on the Pioneers' offensive half of the pitch. The Pioneers outshot UW-La Crosse 4-3 in the final 45 minutes at Springer Field and had three corners compared to two for the visitors.

Campbell Swaim '28 had two shots for the 4-8-2 Pioneers, while Sarah Travis '27, Addison Thornberg '29 and Amelia Klein '30 added one each.

Peyton Dixon '27 had an impressive performance at keeper for Grinnell, making 10 saves including one late in the contest where she perfectly timed a leap to punch the ball away.

UW-La Crosse improved to 14-0 with the victory.

The Pioneers have their most critical stretch of the regular season starting Saturday when Lawrence University visits Springer Field. After that, consecutive Saturdays at Illinois College and at home against Cornell College will help determine the Pioneers' postseason fate.
