Grinnell breaks school, SLIAC records with 285 on opening-day of league championships

EDINBURGH, Ind. - On just the first day of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Women's Golf Championships, Grinnell College made its mark - and then some.

The Pioneers shot a conference and program record score of 3-under-par 285 at Timbergate Golf Club to give the Pioneers the lead by 33 strokes over second-place Mississippi University for Women.

The previous SLIAC mark was 288 by Grinnell in 2024 and the Pioneers' previous school record was 286 atthe 2025 Wartburg Spring Invite.

Madison Chen '30 and Caroline Hoang '30 are tied atop the individual leader board after shooting 2-under-par 70s, the sixth-best scores in program history. Each golfer posted six birdies on the day.

Coco He '30 is tied for third after tallying an even-par 72, acquiring four birdies in the process. Emily Lackershire '27 is fifth at 73, Saya Geisendorfer '27 is sixth at 75 and Waverly Yang '28 is tied for eighth with a 78. Lackershire and Yang each had three birdies and Geisendorfer a pair. Rounding out Grinnell's players was Sammi Nguyen '30, who shot an 82 and had two birdies.

The tournament continues through Tuesday.
