Grinnell men's swimming and diving team cruises to another Midwest Conference crown

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's men's swimming and diving team kept the long streak going Sunday, winning its 10th consecutive Midwest Conference title at Russell K. Osgood Pool.
 
The Pioneers, who have won 22 of the last 24 MWC crowns and 46 overall, piled up 1,037.5 points to handily beat runner-up Milwaukee School of Engineering's total of 852. Grinnell's winning total is its highest since the 2009 meet.
 
Grinnell won five of the six events contested Sunday, with MWC, meet, school and pool records tumbling in two of those – Evan Ingraham '29 in the 200-yard butterfly and the 400 freestyle relay team.
 
Ingraham, named MWC Newcomer of the Year, claimed the butterfly in 1 minute, 47.69 to beat the school, pool and conference records of 1:48.62 and meet mark of 1:49.28. He also eclipsed the NCAA "B" cut by nearly 2 seconds.
 
The 400 freestyle team of Rommin Adl '26, Spencer Pfaff '29, MWC Swimmer of the Year Evan Feilmeyer '28 and Aidan Donovan '28 won in 2:58.99 to shatter the MWC, meet, school and pool marks of 2:59.18. They also beat the NCAA "B" cut by nearly 2 seconds. Adl finished his career with 21 MWC titles, second all-time at GC, while Feilmeyer boosted his career total to 12 and Donovan to nine.
 
Donovan won the 100 freestyle in 44.97 to match an NCAA "B" cut. Grinnell's other victories came from Cadel Saszik '28 in the 200 backstroke (1:50.64) and Keely Yeager '27 in the 200 breaststroke (2:05.74).
 
In the 1650 freestyle, Noah Tsukuda '27 was third in 16:32.32 and John Kafumbe '28 placed seventh in 16:58.42. Gavin Stiglitz '28 was second in the 200 backstroke in 1:54.79, which ranks 10th in GC history.
 
Adl, Pfaff and Ryan Lim '29 were second, third and seventh in the 100 freestyle in 45.35, 45.71 and 47.43, respectively. Pfaff's time ranks sixth in GC history.
 
Feilmeyer was second in the 200 butterfly in 1:49.67 and Antoni Staszkiewicz '27 placed fifth in 1:56.59. In the 200 breaststroke, Jack Cerone '28 was sixth in 2:10.25, Jafar Jarrar '27 placed seventh in 2:11.10 and Chris Zhou '27 took ninth in 2:14.57. Jarrar's time of 2:10.56 in the prelims ranks 16th in GC history.
