GC netters split matches at UW-Whitewater Invite

Pioneers blank Wheaton, lose 4-3 nail-biter to Luther

WHITEWATER, Wis. - Grinnell College's men's tennis team split matches at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Invite Saturday, blanking Wheaton College 7-0 and losing a 4-3 nail-biter against Luther College.

Grinnell swept singles play against Wheaton with wins, in order, from Maxi Gutbezahl '29 (6-0, 6-0), Henry Park '28 (6-1, 6-2), Devansh Punjabi '29 (6-1, 6-1), Gervase Ngo '28 (6-7, 6-4, 1-0), Albert Bostoen '26 (5-7, 7-6, 1-0) and Aman Kothari '28 (6-2, 6-2).

The Pioneers won the doubles point with victories at No. 1 by Bostoen and Lucas Willett '26 (7-6) and No. 2 with Gutbezahl and Alex Doane '28 (6-4).

Willett and Gutbezahl won 6-4, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, in the Luther match. Punjabi added a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 4 singles and Doane teamed with Gutbezahl to win 7-5 at No. 3 doubles.

Grinnell, 2-1, plays UW-Whitewater Sunday to finish off the tourney.
