PENSACOLA, Fla. – Grinnell College's baseball team hung with nationally-ranked powerhouse University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for some time before the Warhawks pulled away for a 15-3 victory Wednesday.
Competing in the Blue Wahoos Challenge at Admiral Fetterman Field, Grinnell trailed just 3-0 through three frames before the 15
th-ranked Warhawks began pulling away.
Grinnell had five hits in the game, including a triple from
Jacob Gaynor '28 and singles from
Connor Goodson '26,
Joe Chanis '27,
Ben Skiles '28 and
Ryan Jackson '29.
Grinnell got its first run in the fourth inning while trailing 6-0 on an RBI groundout by Chanis. In the sixth, Gaynor blasted a two-run triple to center field to score Chanis and Goodson.
Daniel Shaul '26 was the pitcher of record for Grinnell, working the first 3.2 innings.
Grinnell, 3-7 overall, will play Concordia (Wis.) on Thursday. UW-Whitewater evened its mark at 3-3.
