MELBOURNE, Fla. - For the second day in a row, Grinnell College's softball team battled a team to the wire at the Space Coast Spring Games.

In the last of Saturday's two games, Grinnell led the University of Hartford 4-2 into the bottom of the sixth inning before the Hawks put up three runs to win 5-4 at the USSSA Space Coast Complex.

Grinnell (2-6) featured a balanced offensive attack with hits by Ava Araujo '29, Gabriella Simon '29, Leanna Guerra '28, Kayla O'Malley '28, Kala Bisterfeldt '28 and Julia Marquez '29.

Emma Trani '26 was the pitcher of record for Grinnell, scattering eight hits and striking out three in 5.2 innings.

Hartford scored in the first inning before the Pioneers tallied three times in the third on an RBI triple by Araujo, sacrifice by Simon and RBI single by Guerra. In the fourth, Marquez hit a run-scoring infield single for a 4-1 lead. However, Hartford scored once in the bottom of the fourth and three more times in the sixth.

In Saturday's opener, Grinnell scored twice in the bottom of the first before Marietta University tallied twice in the third, seven times in the fourth and again in the fifth for a 10-2 victory.
