Grinnell women dispose of 33rd-ranked Carleton by 4-3 count

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - A victory over a nationally-ranked team was exactly what the Grinnell College women's tennis squad needed the day after suffering its first loss of the season.

The Pioneers won a 4-3 thriller over 33rd-ranked Carleton College Sunday afternoon to improve to 8-1 on the season.

Logan Tom's '29 heroics sealed the deal after the 8-2 Knights pulled within 3-3 in singles play. Tom won her first set at No. 3 singles 6-2 and lost the second 7-6 to force the deciding set, which she won in convincing fashion by a 10-3 count.

Grinnell began the match by sweeping doubles play with the duos of Paige Sargent '27-Isa Voinescu '26 at No. 1 (6-4), Pari Chavan '27-Tom at No. 2 (6-4) and Eliana Martin '29-Tan Mukherjee '26 at No. 3 (7-6).

In singles, Chavan posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 and Martin rallied for a 1-6, 6-3, 10-6 decision at No. 6.

Grinnell will travel to Virginia later this week for several spring break matches.
