Grinnell takes big step towards winning another MWC title with convincing win over Lake Forest

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's tennis team passed its most important test to date this season by rolling past Lake Forest College 5-2 Saturday in the Bear Center Field House.

Grinnell, ranked 20th nationally and sixth regionally, handily won the battle between unbeaten MWC foes while winning its 201st consecutive contest against league opponents. 

The 16-5 Pioneers, who are 5-0 in the MWC and 16-5 overall, opened on a big note by sweeping doubles matches with the duos of Albert Bostoen '26-Lucas Willett '26 (7-5), Maxi Gutbezahl '29-Alex Doane '28 (6-2) and Gervase Ngo '28-Garvin Murray '29 (6-4).

In singles, the Pioneers won at No. 2 through 5 with Gutbezahl (6-3, 6-2), Murray (6-3, 1-6, 7-6), Henry Park '28 (7-6, 6-2) and Devansh Punjabi '29 (6-3, 6-2).

Lake Forest, ranked 42nd nationally, fell to 4-1 in the MWC and 13-6 in all matches.

Grinnell can wrap up another MWC title Sunday when it hosts Cornell College at 10 a.m.
