GRINNELL, Iowa – For the second time this season, Grinnell College's
Garvin Murray '29 has collected the Midwest Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week honor.
Murray, from Chicago, Ill. (Von Steuben Metro Science Center), was a perfect 4-for-4 as the Pioneers topped both Lake Forest College and Cornell College to claim their 22nd consecutive MWC title, the longest such streak in league history regardless of sport.
In a 5-2 victory over Lake Forest, Murray teamed with
Gervase Ngo '28 to win 6-4 at No. 3 doubles and then got the match-clinching point in a 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 decision at No. 3 singles. Grinnell then stretched its winning streak against league foes to 202 matches by blanking Cornell 7-0, as Murray won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and teamed with Ngo for a 6-3 decision at No. 2 doubles. Grinnell has shut out 44 of its last 52 MWC opponents.
