Grinnell puts 5 entries into Midwest Conference Men's Tennis Tournament title matches

MADISON, Wis. - Five Grinnell College men's tennis players will be contending for singles titles following a successful opening day of the 2026 Midwest Conference Championships.

Moving into singles title matches at the Nielsen Tennis Center were Maxi Gutbezahl '29 at No. 2, Devansh Punjabi '29 at No. 3, Aman Kothari '28 at No. 4, Albert Bostoen '26 at No. 5 and Anshul Satav '27 at No. 6.

Gutbezahl, the top seed, received a first-round bye and then defeated the fourth seed from Illinois College 6-4, 6-1. Punjabi, also a top seed, got a bye and then disposed of a Cornell College opponent 6-1, 6-3.

The top-seeded Kothari received a first-round bye and then beat his Cornell opponent 6-0, 6-1, while Bostoen was the top seed and defeated an opponent from Lawrence University 6-0, 1-0, retired following an opening-round bye. At No. 6, the second-seeded Satav won 6-1, 6-0 over his foe from Ripon College before earning a 6-2, 6-1 decision over the third seed from Cornell.

At No. 1 singles, second-seeded Josh Kruger '29 beat an opponent from Illinois College 6-0, 7-5 in the first round before losing a 6-2, 6-3 decision to the third seed from Lawrence.

All three Grinnell entries in doubles play are in the semifinals after receiving byes as the top seeds. They are Lucas Willett '26-Bostoen at No. 1, Alex Doane '28-Gutbezahl at No. 2 and Garvin Murray '29-Gervase Ngo '28 at No. 3.
