GRINNELL, Iowa – The home course proved to be the perfect setting for the Grinnell College women's cross country team Saturday morning.
The Pioneers placed second of 10 teams at their own Les Duke Invitational, scoring 46 points at the Grinnell College Golf Club and finishing just 13 points behind nationally-ranked Central College.
Central entered the meet ranked 30
th nationally and fourth in the Midwest Region, while Grinnell is the No. 6 spot in the region.
Hannah Roth '27 had another impressive outing for the Pioneers, placing third of 98 runners on a mild and windy day. Her clocking of 23 minutes, 46.3 seconds over 6 kilometers ranks 45
th in program history.
Cindy Wang '28 and
Arushi Kharbanda '29 were next in line for Grinnell, taking fourth and sixth place in 23:52.0 and 23:56.1, respectively.
Ella McEntee '29 and
Beatrice Ebel '28 completed Grinnell's scorers, placing 16
th and 17
th in 24:27.2 and 24:33.7. Also for Grinnell,
Lizzie Drew '29 placed 20
th in 24:43.2 and
Emma Wharton-Hsieh '27 took 27
th in 25:30.2.
Grinnell also had an alumni-faculty-staff team that placed fifth with 158 points.
Morgan Karow '27 led the team, placing fifth in 23:53.2.
Central's Maddy Stevens claimed the individual title, running the race in 23:01.5.
